Cafrino Announces Key Acquisition of National League of Poker (NLOP)

NEW YORK (PRWEB) August 30, 2017

Cafrino has dramatically expanded its reach in the online poker world after acquiring National League of Poker (“NLOP”).

National League of Poker is well-known in the social and online poker space. NLOP has been servicing those online poker players who were left without options following the federal government’s crackdown on online gambling. Like Cafrino, NLOP is free-to-play and pays players cash prizes, which are derived from its advertising revenue. In addition, NLOP offers a subscription model and downloadable applications.

“It’s a fantastic addition to what we’ve been doing with Cafrino,” said Mike Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of Cafrino. Murphy, who headed NLOP before joining Cafrino, added: “The acquisition of such a quality product, with over 1.3 million users, makes this an amazing deal. When originally running NLOP from 2013-2014, we had big plans. I’m excited to get the chance to pick up where we left off.”

The acquisition means Cafrino, with bases in New York and California, has dramatically increased its daily and monthly active users. Since its launch in 2006, NLOP.com has undergone consistent and ongoing development. The current plan is to run Cafrino.com and NLOP.com separately, promising to introduce innovation to both these products in due course.

Cafrino Chairman Haig Kayserian, who negotiated the deal along with company CEO Mike Murphy and General Counsel John Buckman, was delighted at the opportunity the acquisition presents their online poker startup.

“Cafrino has been on a steady growth path under the leadership of our CEO Mike Murphy, and this acquisition of National League of Poker represents the exact push we needed to accelerate that growth,” Kayserian said.

Stan Hunting, who has headed NLOP since Murphy’s departure, joins Cafrino as part of this acquisition. Hunting will assume the VP of Ad Operations role.

Murphy said: “Stan and I worked closely at NLOP, and he brings valuable expertise in ad operations, which will greatly benefit the Cafrino team.”

Cafrino unveils Haig Kayserian as Chairman and Joseph Conner as Director of Poker Operations

Cafrino unveils Haig Kayserian as Chairman and Joseph Conner as Director of Poker Operations

NEW YORK: Cafrino has announced co-founder Haig Kayserian as its new Chairman, and brought experienced gaming executive Joseph Conner into its team, as the online poker startup continues on its impressive growth trajectory.

Cafrino was founded in response to the 2011 United States-wide crackdown on online gambling, and after a product reboot in 2014 under new CEO Michael Murphy, the legal poker website raised seed money totalling $250,000 and has recorded impressive growth over the past two years.

Cafrino takes no money from players, but pays players cash prizes from its advertising revenue, which is received by running advertisements between hands.

Since 2014, its player-base has grown to 60,000, with over 10% identified as monthly active users. There are over 1.8 million hands dealt on the website per month. This number is expected to grow significantly with the launch of the Cafrino mobile app, slated for later this year.

Haig Kayserian, who has been part of Cafrino since its inception, is an internet business consultant with two international companies under his directorship – digital agency, KAYWEB and angel investment firm, KAYWEB Angels – and has sat on the boards of over ten internet businesses in the United States and Australia. He is also an adviser to a venture capital fund.

Kayserian assumes the Chairman role on the Cafrino board as the company looks to raise Series A funding that will catapult its product and marketing efforts to what he refers to as “a tipping point”.

“Our CEO Michael Murphy has led Cafrino beyond all set targets since we raised our seed money at a $1 million valuation,” said Kayserian. “Our relationships with ad agencies have us clear-sighted on what we have to do to reach a tipping point in terms of active users, and we’ve drawn a path to achieve that with the help of a Series A funding round that will reflect the new value of this outstanding business.”

CEO Murphy added: “We listened to our users and constantly improved our product to bring it closer to their satisfaction, and are now planning on further enhancements on our evolving list, especially taking Cafrino mobile and introducing an ad-free subscription version to meet this demand made by some of our users.”

To help with this product focus, Cafrino has also announced that Joseph Conner is joining the team as Director of Poker Operations, with the task of managing the product evolution post-funding.

Conner is an online poker product professional with eight years of experience in real money, membership, ad-based and social poker models. His list of products include Tropicana Entertainment’s Social Casino, Bwin.Party’s Party Poker & Party Casino, NYX Gaming Group, and DoylesRoom Poker.

Conner said: “I have closely followed the progress of Cafrino since 2014, and it has really been making waves in the online poker world. Our product plans will inject further momentum in that growth and ensure Cafrino’s place among the leaders in this space.”

Cafrino 3-Betting Light

What is 3-betting and 3-betting light?

What is 3-betting and 3-betting light?

Given how aggressive the play is in online poker, the 3-betting light is becoming one of the most popular decisions out there. A three-bet is a re-raise that a player makes before the flop, and players either do it for value, or they do a “light” version. Let’s take a look at each of these bets and how they can help you.

Understanding 3-betting and 3-betting light

The “value” three-bet means that you think your hand is the strongest currently on the table, and you want to add to the pot while you still have the upper hand. Whether or not you should put down the three-bet has to do with a number of factors. How’s the rest of the poker table looking in terms of the dynamics of your rivals? What tendencies does your opponent show?  No matter if you’re playing a million dollar tournament or a friendly hand of free poker, you want win and hit a hand that will beat your opponent’s range. Are you playing a typical tight-aggressive player? Think about a fairly tight range then, maybe AA-Q-Q and A-K. If you’re facing a loose-aggressive player or someone who calls re-raises light? Think about a wider range. This could go A-A-99 or A-K-A-Q. If you are too tight with your three-betting range, you’re going to become predictable. Your opponents will realize that a three-bet means that you have a strong hand, and they won’t play along with you.

The “3-betting light” three-bet happens when you re-raise a pre-flop raise, even though you probably don’t have the best hand on the table, but you do see some value in the hand. When you’re doing this, it’s kind of like a bluff, without being a full bluff. You want to take the pot right away, and you’re hoping that your opponent will fold to that re-raise. So you’re looking for an opponent who is pretty loose with his initial raises. If you know that they raise light, you can return the favor, because you know that generally they’ll be folding. So you can carry the pot without even having to look at a flop.

Avoid the Patterns, Even More if you’re Playing Online

This means that you need to pay attention to the way you play and behave at the table. If your opponents see you as super tight, people aren’t going to pay you large for your strong hands. They know that you’re tight and when you come out with big guns, there must be a considerable hand in front of you. However, if you start three-betting light, that will alter the image. If you three-bet holding 7-6 and then show down a pair, you will shed that tight image quickly.

Obviously, you’ll want to keep your opponents guessing, though. Keep that range balanced so that your opponents won’t know whether you have A-A or 5-4 when you three-bet. When your opponents don’t know what you’re doing, they’re a lot more likely to make mistakes. They’ll end up calling your strong hands and folding when you didn’t even have a pair.

Put your 3-betting light poker skills on the line. You can practice as much as you need on the free online poker tables at Cafrino and get all the practice you need while winning real cash!
